Henry County Economic Development Council, Inc.
The Henry County Economic Development Council, Inc. (HCEDC, Inc.) was incorporated in 1989 by a group of forward-thinking citizens who saw a need for a unified effort toward economic development in their county. They felt that a community which is not sold on itself cannot sell itself to others. They saw a need to unite the people of the communities behind a program of community development and educate them to the need for economic development as a means to an end. Since its beginning the HCEDC, Inc. has been instrumental in "improving the quality of life" in Henry County. Due to efforts put forth by this volunteer organization Henry County has an additional two public water supply districts, insuring quality water throughout Henry County. Members of the HCEDC, worked with state legislators changing the laws governing emergency dispatch services, enabling Henry County to become the fist county in the State of Missouri to vote for and implement a county-wide Enhanced 9-1-1 system. After identifying a need for a building to house community-wide events, the Benson Expo and Convention Center was built through private donation in cooperation with the Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) through the Department of Economic Development. Transportation upgrades on state Highways 13, 7, and 53 have, and continue to be, a priority to this council. Through improvements of the infrastructures of Henry County, this organization is making the county a more attractive place to visit, live and do business . The HCEDC, Inc. has a county wide representative board of directors composed of fourteen citizens, plus on county commission, and two non voting high school students. This council has received state wide recognition and awards for its video of Henry County and for its Overall Economic Development Plan. The Henry County economic Development Council, Inc. works throughout the county with business and industry, county, city, state and federal governments, and area chambers of commerce.
